Hayes-isms...

Some recent Hayes-isms...

- The kid LOVES to have his feet kissed. After he has his before-bedtime bottle, when he's looking to get back on the move again, all I have to do is flip him over so he's resting against my knees and let the kissing begin. It equals instant calmness. He particularly likes it when you kiss his heel, whistle up to the toes, kiss those, then repeat on the other side...
- Every night before he goes to bed, we read him a story; we've been doing this for pretty much his whole life, but he's becoming a more involved participant now and definitely has favorites. I sit him on the floor in front of his bookshelf, he picks one out, we give him his binks and then sit in the chair to read. His absolute favorite is a book called Baby Talk where it says something like, "This little baby is happy" and then you open the flap and it's a smiling baby. He literally chuckles behind his binky when you open the flaps, especially the "This little baby is sad" flap... His lack of empathy is a little concerning but hopefully he'll come around!
- His favorite place in the world to be is on his dad's shoulders, hands down.
- Sometimes, when we go into his room in the morning to get him up, we're greeted by a round of applause...
- Speaking of rounds of applause, Hayes is a man of very few tricks. His classics are clapping and doing the Indian chant (when you tap your hand over your mouth and say ah). He's recently learned how to high-five, which he's melded into some sort of a wave as well, so he goes everywhere with one arm shot straight up into the sky in a weird salute. He's also mastering the kiss (he prefers French), which consists of him coming in really close to your face and resting his open mouth on your lips for a few seconds. Drooly, but so delicious.
- Finally, we've worked out a new way to communicate. I have no idea what we're saying, but he seems pretty into it...
