Holiday Recap...

Hard to believe the holidays are already over and New Years Eve is upon us - this holiday season has been a complete sleepless blur, but nonetheless one of my favorites so far. It was so fun seeing the spirit of Christmas through Hayes' eyes and I'm really looking forward to the next few years when we have two munchkin believers for Santa to spoil rotten ;-)

We had a lovely trip to Scottsdale for an early Christmas with my 'rents. Both boys behaved amazingly well on the 7+ hour drive there and back, with Greyson sleeping the whole time and Hayes busying himself with the ipad or his sticker book. And although Hayzey was fighting off a cold while we were at Nana and Papa's, we were still able to hit the "train store" for some afternoon fun and Mama and Daddy were able to partake in some adult relaxation as well (a much needed massage for moi and an afternoon of golfing for Grant).

We headed back to LA on Christmas Eve and arrived just in time for us to write Santa Claus a letter, put the boys to bed, enjoy a last minute thrown together spaghetti bolognese and finish the rest of our Christmas wrapping and toy assembling before turning off the fire (we didn't want Santa to burn his bum!) and turning in for the night.
Finally got some smiles from this guy!
Christmas morning was a blur of presents galore - Hayes literally tearing through all of them, no matter who's name adorned the outside. We were relieved that Santa Claus brought Hayzey both his scooter and trumpet - as you can see by the videos below, the trumpet was the surprising big ticket item!

Nini, Pa and Aunt V joined us for the early morning festivities and the rest of the Cohen clan came by a bit later for a late Christmas brunch. Nini whipped up a traditional turkey dinner and we all went to bed happy and full (and exhausted - my limbs literally ached from the day's activities!).
Apparently I wasn't the only one tuckered out from the festivities...

We've spent the past couple of weeks trying to figure out the little man's sleeping habits, or lack thereof. Poor kid seems to have a case of acid reflux, which means that after his middle of the night feeding, he often doesn't go back to sleep. Some nights are better than others, but the sleep deprivation has been pretty brutal, especially since we've all been sick for a portion of the latter half of the month ;-( I've come to rely heavily on my daily cappuccino (made from my new Nespresso - obsessed!) and am trying to nap when I can, although that's easier said than done with a monster toddler to entertain as well! We keep telling ourselves that it's just a phase and one day we shall all sleep again!

Auntie Wee Wee got to town last night and is here through the 2nd. We're happy to have our resident nurse (and lactation consultant - who knew!?) on hand and are excited to ring in the new year with her and some dear friends at a cocktail party at a yummy restaurant tonight. I'm working on my resolutions and will post them early this week. Looking forward to what 2014 will bring - with the baby of the family getting married, there will be lots of quality family time and good reason to celebrate!

Hope you all have a safe and happy new years eve, surrounded by those you love most.
xoxo

Holiday blur....

Turns out, 2 kids make it seem like there are a whole lotta less hours in the day. Throw in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season (Christmas shopping! Holiday cards! Visits to Santa Claus!) and I'm finding myself with less and less time to sit down and update y'all on the happenings around here lately ;-( I promise to make a lady a priority again in the new year...

All is well here at the kibbutz. Greyson is growing like a weed - he's in the 90th percentile in weight, now weighing in at a chunky 11 lbs, 6 oz and measuring 22.5 inches (80th percentile). Kid has already outgrown a number of his newborn outfits. If you're reading this Aunt Jess, send those 6 month + clothes as we'll be needing them before we know it!

For the most part, he sleeps his days away, preferring being on his side or tummy vs. the recommended "back is best". He makes more noises than any baby I've ever met, constantly grunting and moaning. We moved him into his own room at about 2 weeks and that's been going pretty well; it definitely helps not being able to hear every sound he makes, although feeding him in the nursery is a lot less comfortable for mamma than her warm bed. When he's awake, he's usually screaming - the little man has a temper and will not tolerate a moment of discomfort. As first time parents, this would have terrified us. As second time parents, we know that a little bit of crying won't kill him - and lucky for that, since we have another little monster to tend to as well!
Speaking of which, Hayes has been doing great in his role as big brother. I know we're not out of the woods and that issues are bound to arise, especially when Greyson becomes mobile and expresses interest in Hayes' toys, but so far, Hayes is interested, protective and helpful when it comes to anything baby brother, rushing to give him a binky when he cries, covering him up with a blanket when he's cold and constantly asking where he is and confirming that he'll be coming to wherever we're going. We still can't leave them in a room alone together for fear of the baby being thrown across the room like a toy, but we're quickly learning how to juggle the both of them and so far, I think we're doing a pretty decent job!
So far, the holidays have been a hoot this year, with Hayes grasping the concept of old St. Nick. He's very excited for him to come and reminds us on a daily basis that we must turn the fireplace off on Christmas eve so Santa doesn't "burn his bum". Santa's helper, 'Lobster' (named by Hayes) came to live with us the morning after our Christmas tree went up and Hayes loves finding where he's hiding in the morning when he's made his return from the North Pole. I'm going to miss the little chap when he goes back to live with Santa Claus after Christmas is over and I no longer have him to use as a threat to get Hayes to behave in order to stay on Santa's nice list!

Aunt Jess came for a visit at the beginning of December to help out with the boys, which was great. Greyson isn't a huge fan of the swing or the rocker and prefers instead to be held (lying him on his side on the couch when Hayes is around isn't really an option!), so just having someone here who could provide a human pillow for a few hours in the afternoon was super helpful. We're looking forward to seeing the entire Mailloux clan in chilly Chicago in January, when we head to the mid-west for Whitney and Ryan's engagement party.
We have a busy couple of weeks coming up, filled with holiday parties, a roadtrip to Scottsdale to visit Nana and Papa for an early Christmas and visits from Aunt V and Auntie WeeWee. We'll head back from Scottsdale on Christmas Eve and celebrate Christmas as a family of four before the Cohens come up late Christmas morning. I can't wait for Hayes to see what Santa has brought him - he's requested a "trump" and a "cooter" (trumpet and Scooter) and something tells me Santa's been listening ;-)
Here are some shots of the past month. Hard to believe Baby Grey is already a month old. We are sleep deprived but hanging in there and have been pleasantly surprised that two isn't as hard as we thought it would be!

Will try and check in again before the new year. Hope you're all having a wonderful holiday season! Keep your eyes out for our holiday card/Greyson's birth announcement, which should be arriving in your mailboxes any day now.
